  1. Radish history: The pyramids of Egypt are not as old as the cultivation of radishes is. You would not believe but radishes have been growing since 2700 BC. However, these could be older due to the lack of accurate evidence on their cultivation. However, this mustard-family plant has its roots in the history of China and Egypt, where residents were always fond of radishes.

  2. Radish growth/varieties: Within a month of seed planting, you can expect radishes to be ready for consumption. While their cultivation is easy, their growth is healthy too. In fact, the plant of this root vegetable can reach around six feet in height, depending on its variety. The largest recorded radish weighed 100 pounds and was three feet long! If you knew that radishes were only pink or white, then you should explore yellow, green, red, and even purple radishes.

  3. Radish oil: If you never knew that radishes had oil in them, then now you do. Their pungent flavor is the result of the presence of allyl isothiocyanates. The same oil is present in mustard too. Before the knowledge of olive oil, many Egyptians used to depend on radish oil. In present times, it is more of use as bio-fuel rather than for human consumption.

  4. Radish's health connection: Radishes not only have plenty of vitamin B and C, but also have magnesium, potassium, manganese, calcium, and other minerals in addition to dietary fiber. From tissue building, cancer prevention and skin improvement to bone strengthening, blood pressure control and kidney stones treatment, radishes can bless you with good health in all spheres. The versatile radish has always been used for medicinal purposes.

  5. The celebration of radishes: While you may avoid eating radishes, there are many who celebrate this interesting vegetable. In Mexico, an annual festival is dedicated to them. Large radishes are sculpted to create interesting scenes during this fest called the Night of the Radishes. In some cultures, radish dreams (a dream of a radish garden or radish planting) are considered lucky for the prosperity of business and fulfillment of desires.
