Are you a spiritual foodie who wants to stay healthy through yoga practice? Is there confusion on what you should eat that you also enjoy as a yoga enthusiast? Here are some ideas that not only give you the experience of a yogic diet but also make you enjoy your food:

Ayurveda gives you the best types of food options if you want to keep your body and mind fit and healthy like a yogi. A 'satvik' diet is best to follow if you practice Yoga. As Yoga nourishes your body, mind and soul, so does a satvik diet that generates a positive life force within you and connects you to the universe peacefully. Such diet focuses on the organic food that is grown by the nature harmoniously. Thus, such diet stresses on being light and vegetarian in your options.
By adopting yogic food, you adopt all that is natural. While you should stay away from processed food and artificial items, you should be welcoming to fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, whole grains, etc.
Do not shy away from the use of pure ghee if you are on yogic diet. It only adds to your health, nourishes your body, and makes your cooked food delicious and aromatic. Don't worry about calories, as Yoga would burn them automatically.
If you have to cook in oil, prefer natural oils like sunflower seed, olive or sesame oil.
Use subtle spices like basil, mint, ginger, fennel, cumin, and cinnamon while preparing tasty and innovative dishes that sooth your body and mind. Very spicy or hot food and acidic food is not recommended under the yogic diet, as it is not considered satvik.
Go for natural sugar and sweeteners. You may try options like fruit and nuts salad, drizzled with organic honey, homemade jams, and grains cooked in sugarcane juice.
In yogic diet, herbal teas are great alternatives to your daily cups of caffeine. You may also try being creative with milk, yogurt, butter, etc. Why not add some nuts to your bowl of milk and freeze it to have it like a spiritual foodie's ice cream!
Instead of trying to make a healthy pizza or burger today, switch to making a bowl of quinoa with coriander garnishing or drinking some fresh fruit juice. Yes, the freshness of food is the most important aspect of consuming a yogic diet. So, whether you're celebrating the International Yoga Day or following spirituality on any casual day, you may give a fresh and yogic start to your routine of eating and working out. Do not forget to thank the almighty before having your yogic food cooked with love.
